From The Mouth Of Bishop Omega!

It's not easy filling the shoes of several men at once, but "BullCity's" Bishop Omega does just that! He acts, freestyles, hosts and keeps us laughing. He's REAL in the sense that he doesn't sugarcoat ANYTHING, but that's ok, because that's why he's among the favorites for many people in the North Carolina Hip Hop scene.  We'll let him explain himself even better in the interview I was able to get from him:

TaraMarie: How would you describe who "Bishop Omega" is?

Bishop:  I'm the respectable funny guy with a keen business mind. Damn! that sounds good huh?! Nah, I'm just a man with God given talent that is on his grind!

TaraMarie:  How did you get involved in the Hip Hop scene? And how did U.R.F. Movaz come about?

Bishop:  I just got with the right dudes that wanted to make good music. I started in a 7 man group called Mass Konn (short for Massive Konfusion) with Hiromenbipp, Black Prophet and a few other noteable emcees at the time. I was with that group until like 98 or 99. Me and Prophet left that group and started Ghost In The Darkness, did that for awhile, then ran into a group called Set Camp, which was a group of 5 of the illest white dudes ever!! They had Jax-on Dablo and Marshall Law with them at the time. Long story short, we battled them and won...LOL (But they'll say they won but this is my interview so I won LOL!)  One night at WXDU 88.7FM we started collabing and about a month later the original U.R.F. (United Raw Family) Movaz was born. Now the title U.R.F. Movaz is more of a label or Ent company then a group. I still rep URF even tho I'm not there for the day to day grind and my partners Jax and Prophet understand that.

TaraMarie:  Tell us about the Open Mic event you host every Sunday. What would you like to see in the future for that?

Bishop: Oh Yeah, my new baby/headache...LOL  Sunday Night Sessions at Jack Sprat 161 E. Franklin Street Chapel Hill, NC (shameless plug I know) is an Open Mic and more. It's a place where artists can come and work on their craft and network. Where artists/producers/fans new to the Hip Hop scene can come and get their foot in the door. And I also try to set a standard of conduct for a Hip Hop show. Alot of people don't know the do's and don'ts of being a fan and artist. That's the reason I stop the music and "talk" to the crowd alot of times. People seem to dig it. As far as the future, I just want it to be a place that the artists have to go. Like "Yo, have you done the Open Mic at Sunday Night Sessions? No? Then you aint on your grind!"

TaraMarie:  Besides the music scene in this area, you're also a well-known Comedien...What do you have going on there?

Bishop:  I tell you one thing, this stand up has opened alot of doors for me as far as hosting and acting. But I also run a comedy Open Mic called "OUT and OUT" at 704 Rigsbee Ave in Durham. The good folks at Lloyd's Lounge have opened their doors for my man Truitt OJ Neal and he asked me to be the full-time host. I'm always doing shows and open mics around NC. I try to keep working. I will be featured on a comedy sketch DVD called Way Out There. Shout out to Cedric, ED, DT, Driven and J Peep and all the others involved in that project whose names escape me!

TaraMarie:  Where can we find Bishop Omega in the future? What do you hope to be doing full-time?

Bishop:  Like I said, acting on a sitcom, commercials, playing a dead body on CSI, whatever puts me out there. Right now I have a handful of scripts I'm reading on. The newest is from Shadowdog Productions and that's voice-over acting. I'm still with the cast of Broke and Sexy,  a play by Omar Tyree and I'm in the cast for Black Poetry Theater called The Game written by Dasan Ahanu. I still want to host as much as I can or even open my own spot just for NC Hip Hop and R&B music. The future is wide open right now, I just got to hit it for the score...No look pass ni**a LOL
