NylaElise...From One Room 2 The World

Nyla Elise, a popular "local" grassroots clothing company has been expanding globally with it's brand. Ricky Moore Jr., creator of Nyla Elise, reached out to a local North Carolina manufacturer with a vision and a desire to use products grown in his own community. He named the company after his daughter, which represented a new beginning in his life and the positive impression he wanted to make in her life. The Nyla Elise movement hasn't changed as far as its homegrown humbleness, but the brand has been generating a National spotlight for the past year or so with features in Spin Magazine and The Washington Post. Nyla Elise has helped to outfit several music related events and continues to get involved in community activities to help make the world a better place for his family and ours. His unique socially inspiring designs have been worn by music artists (J. Cole, Wale, Killer Mike, Kaze, J. Gunn, Common), celebrities (BET's 106&Park Rocsi, Luis Da Silva), athletes (Nolan Smith, Jay Williams), and political leaders. Ricky reminds those around him to always Keep God First in all you do.

Nyla Elise Mission Statement:

"The true essence of Nyla Elise is more than a name, it is a blossom from a seed planted hundreds of years ago. A blossom designed to grow into a being that represents beauty, power, soul, and strength. A blossom destined to be great no matter what her surrounding adversities may be. Nyla Elise is history. Nyla Elise is you. Nyla Elise is me. Do you have what it takes to be Nyla Elise."

Drty Dame ft. Guapo..."That'll Work For Me"

Another "Bull City" artist launched his Official Video tonight. Drty Dame has been heard on K97.5's weekly "919Radio" program broadcasted every Friday night between 8 and 9pm. He's performed on one of my showcases and makes his presence known all over the 919 by hitting the stages, showing support to the scene, other artists, and his hometown of Durham, NC. One of my favorite tracks of this artists is "Fuck It" with a quality video backing it.

"That'll Work For Me" is the newest video from Dame featuring Guapo (Greensboro based artist), shot & edited by Dre Cannonz (a Raleigh based Producer/Videographer).

KSlack...In & Out Of North Carolina

Since the mid 90's Keith Slack (KSlack) has been making an impression in the music scene in and out of North Carolina with his Productions (influenced by Khrysis, Ski Beatz and 9th Wonder) and his lyrical flow. The motivation behind him was to find a way to blend East Coast, West Coast and Southern sounds that would appeal to the masses among Hip Hop fans. As a member of TheThyrDay group, bred in Durham, NC, he was able to show off his skills on both levels, as a Producer and an Emcee. That allowed him to really cultivate his love for Hip Hop music.

Chriz Millz...BMW Lifestyle

North Carolina native, Chriz Millz, gained an ear for what's hot and what's not in Hip Hop as a young DJ. He was able to classify street bangers from club bangers by the age of 14, thanks to  guidance from his stepfather. By age 16, he was practiced in the lyrical side of the music and formed a 3 man group with two other local rappers, Trap P and OC (Crown Caesar). The group parted after a few years and each went solo with their careers. Millz first Mixtape was released soon after, "Smoking Section". The mixtape included collabs with local Producers with Executive Production by "Black Jeruz".

After building a strong buzz through the internet and on the streets, Chriz Millz is proving his hard work is paying off with his new track, "BMW Lifestyle" (Produced by Durham's Gotti of RuGotti Productions) which has been played several times on K97.5FM's "919Radio" program (features all NC artists every Friday evening from 8 to 9pm).  Watch for future drops from Millz this Spring.

"Let's Be Honest"...Kam Moye/Supastition

Don't judge me for posting an older video! Hip Hop music is one of the genres that is still relevant years past it's release. I'll be honest, I heard of Supastition since I moved to North Carolina in the late 90's, but didn't really know much of his music. The first NC artists I heard while residing here were Brandon D and Tye Banks. Over the years, I did some research, but was still discovering artists when I was pulled into the local scene. Facebook was a wonderful tool!

The Return of Da Instigator...K-HILL!

For the K-Hill fans that have followed his career up to now, Welcome to the Fresh & New! Most serious artists realize when it's time to "re-invent" themselves or fall back. This year we will all get to sit back and watch the evolution of K-Hill. He's still one of the most undeniable lyricists in the state, but he's stepping it up into some untraveled territory and the outcome can only be incredible! "The Covenant", produced by Madwreck and "scratched" by DJ GrazzHoppa, gives us a reminder of the sharpness that K-Hill will always possess...

Armed With Mics...It's Fallen Anghellz!!

Fallen Anghellz is undoubtedly one of the most electrifying new duos on the North Carolina Hip-Hop scene. Consisting of MC/Producer Apostle A.P. and MC/Vocalist Seven Da Pantha. The group released their debut, Lost Testaments Vol. 1: The Passion…The Truth on December 13, 2011. Spearheaded by the production of A.P., the album is an affirmation of the beautiful noise the East Coast has been experiencing over the last year as the Anghellz’ live performances brought down the house in numerous venues.

Come On Out To Shakedown Street!!

If you live anywhere within the Triangle area, you've probably heard about Shakedown Street!! Located directly across from the NC State campus at 2500 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, NC. It's owned by a husband and wife, affectionately known to the artists and fans that come through there as "Uncle John and Darlene". By the many photos on the walls within Shakedown Street, I knew there had to be a history behind Uncle John, I was right...

TaraMarie: How long have you owned Shakedown Street? Did you open it to be primarily as a music venue?

The Millie Vaughn Experience..."The Millie Tape"

Maliq "Millie" Vaughn is quickly becoming a recognizable name among artists and producers alike. Artists see him as the beat behind their next banger, producers see him as serious competition in the Beat Battles and on the streets. With a versatile collection of productions in his catalogue and a new project out, he's moving fast up the ladder to success! Join me as I found out about who "Millie" is...

TaraMarie: How did you get started in music production? Is there a family history in music?

Millie:  My talent is credited to my late father, Fred Duane Graves. He had an extraordinary voice and would sing often before he passed

Jozeemo "True Identity"

Jozeemo, the CEO of Blockhuggerz Entertainment, East Durham residing MC, has been shaking up the Underground Hip Hop scene of North Carolina for some time now.  Jumping into 2012 with the successful release of his newest album, "True Identity", Jozeemo  has Tweeted that it will be his last album. Don't believe everything you read tho! There is too much talent within this one man to set it aside now. It is evident on every track of "True Identity" (Available on iTunes now). The intended single, Adrenaline, gives you a taste of the hard-hitting side of Jozeemo, where as tracks like "Call Me" and "Somethings Gotta Change" show you he isn't all "gansta".  2011 added another credit to Jozeemo's profile with his self-edited video "Steam".  So, be sure that things can only get better for this NC Favorite!

DJ Skaz Digga...On The Tables!

From Durham, North Carolina to the world, DJ Skaz Digga has been spinning the tables. Starting off in local clubs & parties to sharing major stages with major artists, he has built a respected reputation among emcee's grinding in North Carolina and National Recording artists. I had to hunt him down for this interview so pay attention!

TaraMarie:  You've played a major role in artist development within the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina. Can you tell us some of the artists you've worked with?

From The Mouth Of Bishop Omega!

It's not easy filling the shoes of several men at once, but "BullCity's" Bishop Omega does just that! He acts, freestyles, hosts and keeps us laughing. He's REAL in the sense that he doesn't sugarcoat ANYTHING, but that's ok, because that's why he's among the favorites for many people in the North Carolina Hip Hop scene.  We'll let him explain himself even better in the interview I was able to get from him:

TaraMarie: How would you describe who "Bishop Omega" is?

Bishop:  I'm the respectable funny guy with a keen business mind. Damn! that sounds good huh?! Nah, I'm just a man with God given talent that is on his grind!

KAZE? 4Letters? Black Kennedy?

The beginning of 2012 may have confused some of the faithful fans of Chapel Hill, North Carolina's favorite, Kaze aka 4Letters, as he took on a different persona, "Black Kennedy". Questions are being asked like "No more Kaze?" "Who is Black Kennedy?" So let me explain and try to settle some of the confusion. "Kaze" will always be KAZE! Black Kennedy is the name he has chosen to Produce under (Yes, besides being a beast on the mic, he also is the sound behind it too). Anybody that knows Kevin "Kaze" Thomas knows that he's always been an extremely motivated artist. He's had his hands in Battles, Open Mics, TV shows, and just about every other aspect of Hip Hop. In 2011, he joined up with Pop singer/International Model, Liz Harlow, and her team in Miami. They've been putting together "JetSetMafia", a music project that combines Pop, Hip Hop and Dubstep. "Black Kennedy" has produced a majority of it. The project released their 1st video "Bass Cannon" and 1st track "Dance Floor" this month at www.JETSETMAFIAMUSIC.com. Every great artist knows how to keep his fans tuned in and how to grab new fans as the times change and that's what this year will prove to us.
